The Plastic Bottle Top Project
Individuals and organisations across Lancaster, Morecambe (and even further afield!) have joined together to collect plastic bottle tops.
The plastic we accept is generally ‘low value’ in our council recycling system, and we’re trying to give it more value as beautiful new objects and a longer life. We are collecting ANY plastic bottle tops, regardless of container type.
Collect, clean, and sort to help us reduce plastic going to landfills.

How to Start Collecting for
the Plastic Bottle Top Project
Clean your tops. Run them through the dishwasher or washing machine (in a mesh bag) or throw them in your dish soaking water. Remove any paper or sticker labels and gunk left behind.
Dry your tops. Make sure they are fully dried before bagging/depositing them.
Wet or dirty plastic will grow mould and will end up being thrown out because we don’t have the capacity to clean everything and dirty bottle tops will ruin our machines.
Deposit them at one of the locations below OR bring them to a monthly sorting party.
Start a collection point of your own. Download a sign, tell your friends, family or colleagues what you’re up to. Remind them to clean and count theirs as well!
Collection points
Please check individual locations for open hours, we do our best to keep them updated, but cannot guarantee accuracy. When in doubt, contact the collecting point directly.
